Gödöllő is located just about an hour away from Budapest, which makes it for a perfect option for a day trip. The main attraction of Gödöllő is without question, the Royal Palace of Gödöllő, which is the largest Baroque castle in Hungary. And what makes the castle even more special? That it was the favorite residence of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, also known as Sissi. Sissi loved Hungary and the Hungarian loved and still love her also, she learned how to speak Hungarian, she was most at home in Hungary. The Castle of Gödöllő was a gift to her and her husband from the Hungarian people following their coronation in 1867. Gödöllő was a place where Elisabeth was free to be herself. Discover the castle, which was Sissi’s home away from home!

Sissi loved horses, therefore we could not imagine a better program next to visit at the Castle, then visiting a nearby Horse ranch, where you can experience the real Hungarian hospitality, our delicious cuisine and traditions.

8. Hévíz

Hévíz, is known for the world’s largest natural thermal lake that is suitable for swimming. The water of the lake makes a special massaging effect on the human skin as it is in a constant move. It is moving from left to the right, and warm water moves upwards while cold water goes downwards. The water temperature is around 23-25 °C in winter and 33-36 °C in summer. It is a perfect space for relaxation in the summer, just imagine swimming in a nice warm water, between beautiful water lilies, which is the most unique plant of the Lake and has become a real symbol of the town also. In winter it provides a spectacular and unique experience when the condensed steam forms a steam cap on the top of the lake surface, this “cap” prevents water from cooling down too much!

Combine a day trip with a thermal bath experience at Lake Hévíz and a sightseeing at the nearby town Keszthely, which is one of the most charming cities in the surrounding. For more information, have a look in one of our offers, click here.

9. Villány, Pécs, Szekszárd

Are you a wine lover? Then you should not miss a visit to the southern part of the country! Villány and Szekszárd are best known for the their red wines! Villány is Hungary's most southerly wine region. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot are definitely must-tries here as well as the Kadarka, Portugieser, or Schiller wines.
You can experience here much more sunshine than in any other wine regions in the country. Among others, this is one of the reasons why the red wine made in this region has a higher tannin content. Szekszárd’s typical wine is the Siller cuvée, which is slightly darker than a rosé, but lighter in color than reds.

And once you are here, you should not miss Pécs either, where you get the full package, cozy little streets, nice cafes and restaurants, fantastic historical sights and lots of sunshine in the summer! 😊
