4.day – Pannonhalma and Győr

After breakfast drive to Pannonhalma. Visit at the Abbey of Pannonhalma. The Benedictine Abbey of Pannonhalma is one of the most outstanding national historic sites in Hungary,  a religious and art historical centre. The history of the Abbey – built on the “Holy Mount of the Roman province of Pannonia” (Mons Sacer Pannonia) – is as long as that of Hungary’s history. Both in its architecture and intellectual traditions, the Abbey is a unique example of a one thousand-year-old, active Christian monastery that has evolved through a history of continuous operation.

Followed by transfer to Győr, short sightseeing and some free time at this lovely town, known also as the "city of rivers" with charming streets, nice Cafés and cosy little shops. Did you know, that that the extremely popular Hungarian drink fröccs (wine + soda) could have never been discovered without Győr? Ányos Jedlik, a Benedictine from Győr, who also invented the dynamo, contributed to the invention and large scale production of soda water (water with carbon dioxide). In order to test the product, Jedlik and his friends (Mihály Vörösmarty the famous Hungarian poet, Gergely Czuczor poet and linguist, and András Fáy author and politician) tried mixing soda with wine and accidentally created the favourite drink of a whole nation, which is a Hungaricum today.
Followed by drive back to Balatonfüred. Dinner and overnight in Balatonfüred.

5.day – Veszprém and Herend

After breakfast drive to Veszprém. Sightseeing in this lovely city. Downtown Veszprém has been renovated to a magnificent result recently, thus beautiful walks await visitors among protected buildings like the Town Hall. The only pedestrian street is the castle district with its palaces, museums, and churches; it is the best preserved Baroque street of the Hungary. The 48-metre-tall Tűztorony (Fire Tower) originally served defensive purposes: from the top, they could keep an eye on the entire city and spot any fire at once. Walking down the pedestrian street, visit at the St. Michael's Cathedral as well: it was the crowning place of Hungarian queens for centuries.
Light lunch in Veszprém

In the mid-19th century it was purveyor to the Habsburg Dynasty and aristocratic customers throughout Europe. Many of its classic patterns are still in production. After the fall of Communism in Hungary the factory was privatised and is now 75% owned by its management and workers. As of 2006, the factory is profitable and exports to over 60 countries of the world. Its main markets are Italy, Japan, Russia and the US.
